Computer now won't even POST....

My wife's computer suddenly died about 3 days ago. It has been up and running for the past 3 months with no problems at all. Now, it will not even go into the BIOS screen or the post screen. Everything turns on, the hdd spins up, the fans kick on, but all we get is a black screen with the undercore symbol in the upper left hand corner.

Am I correct in assuming the MB went bad or could it be the processor?

It is an Asus P5WD2 Premium with a Pentium D920 processor bought off a fellow anandtecher.

I had that same problem a few years ago, and it turned out to be nothing major. However, I can not remember the cause or the fix for my problem. I'll keep thinking about it and come back if I remember the fix I used. Anyway, don't run out for a new mobo yet, LOL.

did you reset the CMOS?
Make sure you take the battery out too. also, make sure you correct the bios time clock.

OK, I took the battery out and replaced it with a new one. I also reset the CMOS. It would then let me into the setup screen where I reset the cmos date and time. After that, I saved the settings and then the computer just gave me the underscore symbol at the upper left of the monitor screen again. I turned the computer off and on again and the same thing. I reset the cmos and set the clock 3 times tonight and each time the same result.

What next??

Is the power supply a pretty decent unit? Tried a different high-quality PSU with ample wattage in place of that one?

PSU is probably minimal...I will swap mine out with my wifes and check that out...

OK. I tried a new power supply and there is no change. It still will not get past the post screen. I now started to get overclocking failed or overvoltage failed which I was not geting before. I have nothing overclocked and nothing overvolted. I also selected setup default values from the bios screen and that did not change anything. I also tried unplugging everything except the hdd and only have the video card installed. All other peripherals have been unplugged.

also try reseating ram, cpu, video card after everything is disconnected but those. no cables connected to the mobo, no power connected to any other devices. i had an asus k8n-e do something like this to me. after leaving it disconnected from power for a week or two. the system fired right up (right after i claimed its the mobo from me overclocking and putting bad ram in it, which i thought damaged the mobo, and bought a different asus mobo and a new s939 cpu).

OK...i will unplug the hdd and disconect all cables from the mobo...except power of course..hehe
