**Update:

I just got told that my motherboard is screwed, can someone help me where to get a another motherboard like this one? No more Abit though, also I cannot find many more motherboards for socket 478 P4 CPU.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not good at repairing and looking at tecnical problems w/ computers.

But my computer just died 2 days ago, and I dunno what's wrong with it.

2 Days ago, I remember I shutdown the computer at night but forgot to press the
switch on the back of the power supply. So I left it overnight with the MotherBoard (green light) light still on.

The next day the computer won't turn on. I tried to just flip the switch to off a
couple time but it doesn't start up, the green light is on but when I turn off the switch, it makes a <long weeeep kind of noise.

I thought it was the PSU but it had always made that noise. So I bought a new PSU anyways. but it still doesn't work. This time the green light on the MB just blinks and blinks.

Pls help I dunno what to do next.

Here is the info I have collected on my computer:

<Abit IS7-G Motherboard
P4 2.8ghz CPU

1x DIMM RAM 1GB
9800 Radeon Pro
1x nec DVDRW
1x Sony CDRW
1x Sony 40GB HD
1x Seagate 250 GB HD
4x 80mm Fans
1x 120mm Fan

<Antec 500W SP PSU[Old Power Suppy Unit]
This one died before, So i had to RMA for another 500W SP

<Antec 500W NEO [New one I bought yesterday]

Pls help me.

I am having a very similar problem, AMD chip over here. Make sure your motherboard is properly grounded. Also try pressing the manual power switch on the board itself.

make sure you have the power cord disconnected for at least 10 seconds, then plug back in and try again. Why do you bother to turn off the switch on the back of the power supply? just curious

hey all thanks for your replies.

I have tried to adjust the motherboard and make sure it is not touching the case and have

tried to put my old 500w PSU back in, but it still dont turn on, I only know its on because of

the light on the motherboard. I tried to swap the new PSU in also but it only makes the light blink rapidly on the motherboard.

@GhettoBlaster: Do you also have a IS7 series motherboard?

"Also try pressing the manual power switch on the board itself. "

-I don't know which manual power switch on the board. Only the power flipswitch on the back and the front case power button.

@robisbell: I have some kind of generic powerstrip, but now I plug directly into the wall outlet.

@rip:/b] I turn it off everytime (except when I forget to) because the motherboard is still powered on? So i just turn it all off.

My board is an Epox 9NPA+ Ultra, nForce4 Ultra chipset. Still no luck here with my problem. I've been emailing back and forth with Epox hopefully one of their suggestions will work but so far nothing has worked.

As for the powerswitch, on most boards there will be a little rubber nub usually near the corner of the MOBO where all of the case wires connect (pwrOn, pwrLED, etc.....)

hey i just sent my computer to a friend of my uncles, and he tested it out with a 380w powerlink psu, and it turned on. (but did not check with a monitor connected.

I just bought a 700w Seasonic m12 psu, is this too much overkill for my computer?
it cost me $200 bucks and make me go overbudget

also the 500w antec NeoHE, I was told that it only support dual core processor and I only have a single core? P4 2.8gz cpu, so it is not compatible? cause it didnt work on my computer or could it be a bad psu?

I am having a lot of trouble with this company antec, pls reccomend a good psu? anyone?
i really just need a stable psu not too much over $100-150

@ghettoblaster, yea it sucks sooo bad when unexpected things like this happen, sorry to hear about your situation also like mine.

WAY overkill. I'd recommend no more than 300 watts if you don't plan on upgrading and more like 450 watts to give yourself legroom for later. Having said that, the PSU you picked up is good quality so it's not like you bought something crappy.

My advice would be to NOT use the switch in the back to flip your mobo off that often anymore (I only do it once a year when I go away on vacation for weeks.) I'm energy-conscious too but leave it on as it draws next to nothing when your system has shut down and constant flipping like that CAN actually kill something (if I were to venture a guess, THAT is what got you into this.)

Edit: Forgot to mention, this is an awesome deal on some top notch PSUs that will be MORE than enough for your system's needs and are considerably under your budget.

well, yes the 700 is for that system but if you ever upgrade or addon to your system, it'll be ready to handle whatever you can throw at it. if you want a good power supply, PC Power and Cooling make some of the best.

Judging by the specs in the OP's rig, s/he doesn't seem like the kind of customer to EVER need 700 watts. 450-500ish will be more than enough for now and later.

Hello all again,

My problem has not gone away yet.

I returned the 700W seasonic and got a new 610W PC power&cooing psu for $119.00,

I install it and try to turn it on but it nothing turns on, and the motherboard still flashes a green light and nothing happens.

I tried with memory and cpu only, and with nothing connected still nothing turns on.

When my uncle's friend tested with a 350w psu it works? I dunno what the problem is what should I do now? Anyone ever experience this situation?

I am going to add the psu specifications:

Antec SmartPower 500W

Did your uncle's friend test the system with your PSU?
Are you attaching all the PSU cables properly?
Are any of the MB capacitors bubbled or leaking?

Yea he tested my both of the antec psu. Only worked when he plugged his psu into my computer.

Im gonna give him my computer to figure it out, because I don't know what else to do.

I will ask if I can buy the psu from him.
