Computer not starting up

I hooked my computer up at home two days ago and then i brought it back to school yesterday. It worked fine while i was home but now that im back at school it won't start up.

I hit the power button and power goes to all the fans, LEDs on case and mobo, video card, etc. However, the monitor light just blinks, i get no picture, and my CD, HDD, and FDD don't even kick into action.

My mobo has this little light thing on it that shows numbers and such (although my case doesn't have speakers so i can't hear the beeping...) and it shows two giant F's. I looked in my mobo manual and it says "Load Boot Sector". I have no idea why it's not starting up but i took everything out, and re-assembled it but still nothing.

I found an online thing that said the issue for that might be that i need a new bios chip but the thing worked fine just 24 hours before i moved it. Nothing is rattling around in there and i even tried to load up barebone (PSU, CPU, 1 RAM Stick) but still nothing.

Here are a couple easy things to check first:

1) if you use a mouse or keyboard with a round PS/2 plug, make sure it's in the right hole. Green for mouse, purple for keyboard.

2) check the little recessed 115-volt / 230-volt slide switch on the rear of the power supply. I had one get nudged enough to be in the middle position when we moved our office, and that caused the symptoms you've got too.

all plugs are put in the right place and it's set to the 115v position....

also i've taken it apart and put everything back together but still nothing...everything is plugged in but everything that has a wire going from it to the mobo isn't turning on so i'm thinking its my mobo...

What's the spec list on your system? Also, watch that LED display during power-up, does it start with FF, and then cycle through a bunch of things and end up at FF again? (this is the desired behavior). If it just starts at FF and holds it, then something's wrong (duh, mech!) and you might try resetting the CMOS if you haven't already.

it just goes to FF and stays at it and i already reset the cmos. still no luck...

Hmmm. What's the system's spec list?

A couple of things could have happened, your bios could be bad, static electricty could have damaged the PC in some way, the chipset could be dead, check your devices in another machine if you can

Did you try a different power supply? Intregrated or a separate video card? System specs?

you also could have a conflict, my Ipod makes the boot hang for like 5 minutes because it tries reading it as a bootable drive, the pain in the rear way to figure it out is to get a another motherboard same type and test out each peice of equipement, and also get another computer and test our your hard ware one by one in it, try a different brand of power supply if you want to rule that out

Do you have any other decent power supplies you could try, as a fact-finding step? Otherwise, the next thing I'd do is to take the motherboard out of the case and lay it on a piece of cardboard. Now threaten it a bit. Give it the video card, RAM, but nothing else. No drives, no other cards, no keyboard or mouse. Try firing it up like that and see if the behavior changes or not.
