Hi!

I just installed a internal 200gb hard drive to my dell. I already had a 40gb hard drive which i wanted to keep as the master and the 200gb as the slave. I connected the blue side of the IDE to the board, gray to the 200gb, and black plug to the 40gb. The power supply cables are all connected. When I turn on the comptuer, it trys to find the hard drive but finds nothing. No hard drive is found. I went into boot menu to select auto-detect and it still did not detect anything. Please help me. My email is jaguar5367@yahoo.com and my AIM is AKhanna13.

Check the jumper on the hard drive and make sure it's set to Cable Select (refer to the label on the hard drive), since that's probably how your Dell is expecting it. See if that gets it going :)

I put the jumper shunt (i think thats what it is called) into 3 and 4. But I did not touch the dell hard drive because i did not want to mess it up and thought it was already as master

If the Dell drive is set for Cable Select (check the label to verify how they've set it), then your new drive should also be set to CS. If the Dell drive is set to Master, then set your new drive to Slave.

To set it to Cable Select, first look at the label on the hard drive. It'll show a diagram of the jumper, and they'll show where to put the shunt to set it to the various settings: Master, Slave, Cable Select and some drives have a "Single Master" setting as well. Since Dell usually uses Cable Select, that's how you'll want to set your new drive too.
