Hello, lately I've been getting blue errors that freeze my computer and I've been restarting. Now it keeps rebooting itself before windows screen. I changed everything in bios back to default (temps were good before 44C cpu, 49C chipset, though) and reset the bios with jumpers. Checked and all connections are good, very little dust. Here is what it shows, 2 of each, when I click

boot as normal

I have scanned and haven't had any viruses, spyware. Should I try and put the windows cd in and repair windows?

If you have another system, I would download the drive utilities for your Raptor and see if your drive passes all the tests. If it does, you can try to repair it, but you will need to have a rescue disk unless you are ready to try a reinstall over what you have. I haven't had much success without a rescue disk but some people say they have.

It has been up since February and this behavior has been going on for a few days. I'm using winxp, should I just try to do the repair off of the xp disc, I've never done it so are there any tips. A reformat is really a last resort. This system has been great and now this happens.

I agree with Hardlin, the first thing you should probably try is getting the diagnostic software for your hard drive and check it's intergrity.

Also, will the computer boot into safe mode ?

You might try reseating your memory, video card, & any other cards in the machine before doing anything else, unless this is what you meant by checking connection.

The computer will not boot into safe mode, when I click safe mode it says something about repairing windows with the windows disk. The memory, video card, and other cards are seated well. I don't know if I can check my hd in another computer as I don't have any others that have sata ports. So, what are the possible problems, broken hd (after only 6 months?), repairing windows, or reinstalling windows. Is that it?

Yes, I oc'd my computer, but I wasn't having any instability for a month after it. The temps were good, like 39C cpu, 44C chipset and after I began having problems I reset bios to defaults and reset the jumpers on motherboard.

check that boot cd "bart's pe builder" in case you need to access/repair your filesystem

the problem you're describing, i had them when i had screwed up bios settings....when i reset my settings to default i could boot.

In case those files are REALLY damaged then see the first link...there is an extensive text about how to repair the registry (eg when the sys says that it cant find these files) annd i had to do this about a month ago because my sys was totally unbootable....see first link of mine :)

Don't check in another computer. Get diagnostic software for your raptor (what brand is that, WD, Maxtor, etc. etc., I can't rememer) & more than likely it can be ran from a bootable diskette you can create on your other machine. I hope you have a floppy drive on both machines. Lot of people not putting floppies on machines - but still come in handy now & then.

And then on your next machine make sure you get SEAGATE.

dont try any repair or anything as long as you're overclocked, even if you are sure your OC settings work. Sometimes parts degrade (mine do)....and settings get instable which were stable before. I wouldnt tell you that (i am a heavy OCer too) if i wouldn'y have had the same problem

Ryboy:

P.S. - Do Not Overclock - why ask for problems. You already have super fast hardware. If you purchased a fancy sports car that was designed to run up to 175 MPH, why would you need/try to get it to go 200 MPH ??????????

For the bootable floppy is this what you are talking about: WD Raptor . It comes as zip and exe, but both are more than 1.44mb, so how can they fit on a floppy. Also, can this be done on a cd? Thanks for the help so far guys.

how you know its the HD ? Long distance diagnosis ? :)

I would get a bootdisk and then try to access the HD...

Western Digital website should have software for making diagnostic diskette for your hard drive (not to be confused with either repairing or re-installing Windows).

A lot of problems come from faulty power supplies. So that is a possibility. Do your power parameters look O.K. in BIOS ??? You could always do temporary switch to another one of your power supplies, if you have one that is sufficient.

I don't, just trying to help the person. This is one of many possibilities !!!!

Access and HD & then WHAT ?

if he can access the hd from another os or bootdisk he knows the HD itself is ok.

Also....access to the HD/filesystem gives him the option to run a checkdisk /F on the drive to repair and fix.

The WD diagnostic disk is a good idea, tho..although a HD hardware failure USUALLY is not very likely..IMHO....but of course it's good to check.

I would really check into my first posted link and look for the one link inside for the emergency repair - very helpful. But only attempt this if you are sure its NOT any of your bios settings but instead REALLY something screwed with the XP setup.

Okay, I burned the iso for the wd diagnostics for a cd-r and put it in the system. It said there was a cd but it never gave me an option to click a button, I did anyways but it didn't do anything (that was a failure), and I have no floppies. So, I said heck with it, I"m going to try and repair windows or reformat. I popped in my winxp disc and clicked a button to start it up. As all the different options popped up at the bottom, I never saw anything about "Windows Repair." Could it be automated system recovery? I pressed f2 when that came up but it asked for another disc and I don't have another one. So, I went to reinstall windows, and when it got to "Setup is starting Windows" nothing happened after that. I waited 40 minutes and nothing. I am stumped, freaking out, and dying for help.

I would suggest changing your boot order to boot from your windows cd. Then run the repair option from the cd.

I did, I changed to the cd-rom booting first. I haven't seen the repair option as the cd loads, is it the automated system recovery, because if it is it needs a floppy to run that and i do not have that floppy.
