Computer Nightmare

I hope somone can help me, this is my first computer I've built from scratch. It's been a complete nightmare.

In the begining it could get through the Windows install but wasn't stable, it would crash. Then began to blue screen instead of crash. Now I can't get it through the Windows install without a blue screen while it's detecting hardware. I was able to get it to coping files once before it crashed.

I've troubleshot most of the hardware and can't seem to find any problems so I'm thinking it maybe somthing messed up with settings or a funky motherboard. Somthing odd I've noticed is durning the IDE scan it doesn't detect any drives but the bios sees them just fine and they appear to work...

System Spec:
Intel P4 3.0ghz 800fsb 512kb L2-Cache w/ SLK-900u heatsink + vantec 90mm tornado
Gigabyte 8KNXP rev 1.0 w/ BIOs F11
Corsair XMS TwinX 1024-3200LL @ SPD and timings provided by Corsair (2-3-2-6)
Harddrive: WD 7200 RPM 120gig
Antec True Blue 480w power supply
WinXP pro

I've tried two other brands of memory (Kingston, Samsung) at SPD settings with same problems.
I've stripped all the other goodies from the system, and have used two differant video cards.
I've replaced the IDE cables and swapped the IDE drives between other systems.

Help Me Please!!

Check the jumper on the hard drive. If you have it set for "Master with Slave present" and no slave device it won't work correctly. It would be best to simply run it as "Master".

Agree'd and then we can go down the check list 🙂

The Harddrive is set to Master/Single on IDE1 at the master end of the cable.
The DVD rom is on the master end of IDE2.

The HD doesn't have a jumper which I believe means Master/Single.

Have you checked to make sure your mobo is supplying the right voltage to the memory. I ran into strange installation problems until I removed a stick of ram. I was able to put it back in when I realized that the mobo was only supplying 2.65v instead of the 2.75v my Corsair XMS 3200XL needed.

^ what he said, and also relax the memory timings to 2.5-3-3-7 if necessary.
