My wired computer will not connect to the internet. I tried plugging it in straight from the modem, router, I tried repairing it, and I tried about everything. What is the matter? Nothing was done to the computer to stop it from connecting. Nothing that I know of anyway. No programs installed, nothing! Help!!

Maybe the internet connection (DSL/cable/etc.) is down. Do you have a static IP (for the modem)? Try pinging it.

Is your ISP down?

I often cant connect (on dialup), restarting the comp fixes this normally. but yeah, could be the ISP.

It is not the ISP. The internet is directly connected from the modem to the router. Plus, I tried another computer with a direct connection to the modem and directly to the router, and it succeeded. The odd thing is that the internet just stopped working on that computer. The day before it worked perfectly, the next its down.

No idea on the whole static IP thing.

Shut up. I don't want you in my thread.

The card is perfectly fine. I even tried to plug in through the modem via USB to the computer to see if it connected, but everytime, I kept getting "Limited or No Connectivity."

If you have conflicting spyware telling the browser that it must use a home page or search engine than the system will give up and say no connectivity. Have you tried HiJackThis.exe to see what is loading?

Ok, so all of a sudden your computer won't connect to the internet, but another computer you have connects fine with the modem AND the router, but I am not sure your card is fine. Did you say you tried it in a different computer? If it works then try a different slot. Other than that I would figure out when it stopped working, and if you can't backtrack and uninstall or redo whatever has been done, do a System Restore.

That's all I can think of right now.

Oh, and by the way, it's not really wise to be mean to people trying to help you.

Try configuring your ethernet adapter to match the settings of the other computer that worked.

Or just call the tech support of your ISP.

How do you know that the connection is down? Is there an error message? Could be a spyware redirect like someone else mentioned. Trying pinging google or something (run: ping google.com)

I reformatted. Everything is fine now.

Though, I had some odd problem with my router, so I went out and purchased a new one.
