The monitor is surely not the problem even though its old. I say this because when I am watching a movie or something, the sound turns off.

This is what it is like, a computer that hangs with the monitor also turning off. Its really weird. Please advice. Should I continue using my comp or turn off until I find out the mistake?

I agree. Right click and open spot on your desktop, goto screen savers and check out power options. It may be set to disable your monitor after 20 minutes or so. It defaults to this when ever you redo your system.

Disable power options, make sure your voltage rails are being given appropriate volts by PSU under load, Make sure CPU isnt overheating.

Have you got a spare graphics card? Try swapping your current one for an old PCI one - it could be a dodgy / underpowered graphics card.

Hmm..I could try that out. ..My worry is that this happened only after I reinstalled windows. It was fine until then with this graphics card.

All drivers are up-to date.

I really am confused as hell!
