computer messed, best way to get to command prompt?

what's the best way I can get to a command prompt from bootup in Windows XP?

my buddy's computer is messed and he can't even go into safe mode with command prompt, what's the best way to get into the command prompt? startup disk?

If using XP Pro, there isnt any way to get to the Command prompt (dont know about XP home). Boot from the the XP cd and select the repair option.

The best thing to come out of Win98.... the boot disk

press f8 during bootup, give options like 'safe mode' select dos prompt.

If your hard disk is formatted in NTFS, a win95/98 dos boot disk is useless. It won't be able to read the NTFS partitions.
