When there is alot of processing going on, or simply opening/closing/scrolling in windows, there is a high pitch noise. I thought it was the hard drive, but its not. Its not the fans. I think it might be the powersupply, its a 420watt raidmax. Anyway to get rid of it?

Its definately the PSU, i switch out the whole components and it was still emitting that noise.

my psu for my sff is doing the same thing...and the funny thing is its the components. I'm 100% sure its the components inside the psu cuz i've disconnected the hd, the cpu fan, system fans, AND PSU fans and the noise is still there. How the hell is this possible, the capacitors/resisitors/heatsinks making the noise?

At work, my computer has the noisiest system fan. I think it's going to die soon.

It makes my whole desk vibrate. First time I heard it, I thought the whole thing was coming apart! Such a little fan too.

I had a Diamond Monster Fusion (voodoo banshee) card that did that once, also. Just a little fan, but made a whole lot of racket. I just took it off. Worked for a long time after that.

Transformer windings can audibly oscillate due to the generated magnetic field.... you've probably heard a buzzing transformer ballast from overhead flourescent light before . Switching power supplies operate at higher frequencies, hence the higher pitch whine. Unfortunatlely there isn't much one can do since its probably the windings oscillating within the core laminates of the transformer except replace the transformer or PS.

OK its your graphics card that is causing it. Whats your system specs?

I have a R9500Pro that is causing my PSU to make noises. Try to change your graphics card.
I tried to move my 9500 pro to another machine and the noise is gone but instead i get the rolling lines problem.
Back to this machine, my true480 would make high pitch noises.
Im using geforce card now and no problem on both system.

Its not the gfx card either. When I moved my whole system into that new case with new PSU, thats when it started happening. Unplugged the gfx fan too, still the noise.

i actually think it is a bit more complex than that....
i have an enermax 3051 case which comes with a 350W psu on board [which isnt too noisy in the first place] but i wanted to upgrade it to an enermax "supersilent" psu...

..then after i spent 2 hours on cable management i got the high-pitched whine with the new psu. It isnt the psu and comes from the machine. I actually took the psu back to the shop and obviously it was fine in their system but they still swapped it for me in the spirit of good will....same noise.

I stuck my stethescope to various pieces of the machine and it seems to come generally from the baord itself and i read here that sometimes it is from the board circuitry! alterring a settign on the soundstorm control panel reduced the pitch but didnt get rid of it. Like you i get it randomly at rest but also when i move the mouse.
