Please excuse my ignorance as I am a computer novice; however I am doing my best to educate myself and increase my computer knowledge.

My system specs are as as follows: Asus A7V266-E motherboard, Gainward Nvidia GeForce TI 4200 128MB TV\Out Golden Sample, Soundlaster Audigy Gamer, AMD Athlon XP1800, Windows 98SE

I recently reformated my hardrive and now my system is having severe problems including lockups and crashes. Whenever I attempt to install software, for exammple Warcraft 3 and DirectX9, my system freezes half way through and will not respond to control+alt+delete or manual reset. Also the system will ranomly freeze then act as if its reseting; however the boot menu never appears and it does not respond to any commands. I have to flick the power in the back of the computer off then on and then press the power button. My computer has basically become unusable. Please help as soon as possible. All suggestions are welcome. Thank You.

Get the latest drivers for the components in your machine including chipset drivers. You could also do a memory test with memtest86 and see if the memory is ok. Are you using a good power supply? Are you overclocking? DL the diagnostics from your hard drive manufacturer and see if it passes the tests. What have you changed when you refomatted?

Sounds like a RAM issue to me...

Try another piece of RAM from a friend or something
