computer lockup, HELP!!

A few days ago, I turned my computer off in the middle of Half-Life(accidently hit the off switch on my backup battery pack), well anyways, now every time I start a game on my computer it freezes(sometimes when its loading windows too) I can still surf the internet and stuff like that but it always locks up on any game I try to play. I think this had to do with computer being shut off the wrong way but I have no clue on what to do! Has anyone had this problem? Or know what I can do?

There are probably some temporary files somewhere around where they shouldn't be b/c of the improper shutdown.

Head over to the c:\windows\temp and delete all that's there.

You might have to do a reinstall of Windows.

If worse comes to worse a format of the c:\ drive and a reinstall of Windows might be the ticket.
