Computer locking up any ideas

I reformated a few days ago and my computer has locked up 3-4 times since then. It doesn't pick any special time to do it, ive been away from the computer with it idleing and it's done it while I was playing poker which doesn't use up anything. So far i've ran memtest for 5-6 hours with no errors and orthos for 3-4 hours with nothing. What else is there to test? Any ideas?

I had the same issue because I overclocked my unlocked 6800...it would sometimes freeze at the logon screen. Other times, it would run for hours or days before freezing. I'd be doing something as simple as clicking a browser link, with nothing else running.

I thought it might be because of the unlocked pipes, but ever since I went back to the factory speeds about a month ago, I haven't had a single lock-up.

I'm running everything at stock so that shouldn't be a problem. Just ran 3dmark06 and everything seemed alright so guess I can rule out my video card. Almost wish memtest or something would fail so I would know whats wrong.

You should run memtest and see if it passes. My old hardware was locking up and randomly rebooting and it turned out to be bad ram.

Two times today after restarting my computer it came up with no icons only the wallpaper and it was locked up so I restart and it works fine. I can always move my mouse when it locks up but thats it. I have the new thermalright 120 extreme which moves around some on cpu if you bump it, been switching out fans the last couple days that could of happened. It seems to be seated properly though and my max temp under orthos was 41c at stock.

I think i'll flip a coin heads I buy a new cpu tails I buy new ram...

why did you format your computer? was it locking up before you reformatted? have you patch your os with the latest patches

I reformatted because I was getting that dr.watson error where if you opened control panel it would tell you an error occurred and you had to close it. Would also do it when going into properties and a couple other things.
