OK so yesturday i installed a zalman 120mm hsf finished up and everything put everything back together and booted started good and everything checked the temps, they were reading about 35*c then the computer shutdown... Hmm.. Started back up just let it sit and got on my other computer, After a while got back on my desktop(the one shiting down)check the temps about 24*c!!!!! Thats alot cooler than the stock heatsink, would have been about 40*c with the old one, Then... Shut down.. arg.. left it off for a little while, rebooted whent into the BIOS looked around nuthing unuaual. started up.. used my mobos uguru utility thing(abit an8 sli) to check votages and such all looks ok, Then... shut down... WTF! restarted seamed ok left it on and when to bed. got on this moring after a little while decided to check the temps, the it shut down... So right now im thinking it has something to do with my motherboards uguru utilitys/mobo sensours or something as it seams to only restart when i use one of the uguru utilitys. I whent to abits site and updated the BIOS and abit uguru utilitys. Still restarting thow.

Help greatly apresheated.

Sorry if this should have gone in OS's or sofware.

Is the mobo physically damaged in any way?
What brand is your PSU?
Is the mobo properly seated in the case?

Mobo is not damages in any way as far as i can tell, Psu is a skyhalk 520W, and as far as i can tell the mobo is properly seted in the case. all the screws lined up and the little stand off that lines up with a hole in the mobo it all good.

It could be that the mobo is getting a bad speed signal from the fan. Maybe try turning that option off in the BIOS?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The option I'm talking about is one that shuts the pc down if the mobo doesn't get a fan speed signal above a certain rpm.

I really dont know if your mobo does in fact do this, but if you have another fan laying around, it might be worth a swap to see.

I think there may be something of what your talking about, i thought the setting was just more of a fan speed control aguster of sorts, like could set the hsf to rin at a minumum of 1500rpm dont know of sure if it will shut the computer down if it goes lower than that thow, guess ill need to pull out the manual.

Also do you know if it would be ok to take off the fan speed control thing? the one that came with the fan as i dont rilly like it and it just gets in the way, i have had it on max all the time anyway and my mobo has a utlity for agusting fan speed and such. Bacicly do you need to have it? Also i havent had a restart for a while... kinda weird.
