Computer keeps restarting

Hi everyone-

Really could use some help. I have this computer that for reason keeps restarting itself. It doesn't matter what you do, wheater your have 20 programs running or just one. It'll restart by itself. One thing that I've noticed is that when the computer is cold (as in hasn't been running for an hour or so) it'll would always reboot itself on the first booting of the computer. What I mean is when the computer first gets into windows it would all of the sudden restart again. It doesn't lock up at all, but just restarts itself. I've done some basics, like turned off all the programs in the background, checked all the power connections, unplugged it from the power strip, reformated and reinstall windows, scandisk, and turned off enegry saving features; all have failed.

The computer worked for 2 years, these last two months have gone crazy. I have no way of checking the temp of the chip unless there is software out there that can check it. I'm out of ideas.

So if anyone can help, please do. Thanks

Specs:
Athlon (vertical slot) 700 mhz
128 mb of ram
250 watt power supply
S3 Savage 4 video card
20 gb harddrive (maxtor)
DVD drive

Your power supply could be going bad. It's actually pretty small too, you could have been pushing it pretty hard for a while.

If the power output on one of the lines falls below a certain level, the power supply will signal the motherboard to go into a reset status. It will hold this reset status until the power comes back into line, at which point it will let the board start up again.

See if you can borrow another power supply to try out.
