I have have a computer that has the following components:
Tiger 133 Mobo
Dual (2) P3 800 mHz
382 MB ram
Sound Blaster Live! Platnium 5.1
Geforce2 MX video
Pioneer DVD Drive
Acer Burner
WD 40 Gig HHD

The question i want to ask all of you is that My computer keeps crashing. When, running programs or even just moving the mouse, the screen freezes and will not let me do anything. However, the screen is visible with the last thing i did, Just my mouse and keyboard will not work.

I am running win2k and also tried win98...same problem still exists.
Thing i did to see if it would help are:
1)Got new quality RAM, cause i thought it was cheap generic Ram that was causing the problem.
2)Switched around the different cards around, like my PCi settings
3)Even got my hard drive replaced with a brand new one.
However, even with all these things the same problem exists. I was wondering if anyone knew what i was doing wrong or any advice on other methods of solving this problem?

Thank you

Launch msconfig , Start > Run and type msconfig and press enter
Startup Tab uncheck everything but Scan Registry and System Tray
click ok and reboot. See if that stops the lockups. If it does then one
of those programs is causing the lockups. Recheck /Reboot one at a
time to find it.
Post back if that helps...

remove all cards except the video,of course, and try to reboot....If that works add one card at a time, rebooting each time till your problem starts. At least this will allow you to troubleshoot further. Try only one stick of ram as well. Once you figure out your problem you can add the ram. Are you using any USB parts?

Make sure both fans are spinning on your cpu heatsinks. An overheated cpu will cause lockups.

Since it sounds like you started from scratch when you got the new hard drive... it's likely to be hardware or BIOS settings. If heat isn't the problem... Try resetting the bios to defaults or failsafe settings.
