computer keeps crashing on me... what would be the cause?

Computer suddenly died on me a few days ago, and it looked like the maxtor drive failed on me.

I bought a new samsung drive, resintalled windows, and it was look good until I noticed that the computer became irresponsive for a short period of time under multitasking conditions. It freezes for about a few seconds and comes back to normal. Sometimes it crashes.

It's very noticeable if I start playing music in the background for instance, it would freeze and I'd get a beeeeeep on the speakers. Could it be the hdd failing me or another component in the computer?

Since you seem to have some response, I 'd run diags like memtest 86 and anything your mobo has such as asus probe for asus mobos.

It could be something as simple as a BIOS battery tho extremnely unlikely in this case. If you can check the cpu temps. If you are overclocking step it back a notch.

OR it could the OS not working properly. Make sure you run soem spyware removal tools and check for services running that could be leeching your resources.
