Interesting. Good diagnostic work!

Get a decent-quality 500W or 600W PSU, that should be enough.

To be honest, it really wasn't all that good. Having never needed to test a PSU, and being caught flat footed, and ignorant, I simply drove in without doing any do diligent research. I now am a bit more informed. I/we now know why there was a couple of stand-by led's on the mobo, which my/your multimeter will show. Mine showed aprox. 3.5volts.
Something to note, not all PSU's have color coded wiring. Some are all just black, like this Seasonic:\

Did not have a salvaged PSU sitting around that had the 24 pin main board connector,(only the old 20 pins). Have a newer Thermaltake 850 installed in a computer I'm working on, and rather than removing it, I put this computer close to it, and only using the Thermaltake's main board connector I was able to fire this one up.
Looks like I'm in the market for a new PSU.

I've got a new 600w EVGA PSU on the way... as a backup to my 3 in service, and to see if I can revive my dead PC (listed previously.) I'll let you know if mines works... let us know how your new PSU works!
