Computer just shuts off

I just purchased an MGE Titanium case with the Aopen i915ga-plf motherboard. Moved all my other equipment to this new mobo. When I start the computer, I am able to get into the Bios with no problems. Memory, cd drives, and hard drive show up correctly in Bios but there are many beeps going off and Bios reporting CMOS checksum error. I have shorted out the CMOS and error message still shows.

If I try to startup Windows it get to the screen where you can choose to start in "Safe Mode" then the computer just shuts off. I have tried to reinstall Windows and it gets to the screen where it is "Determining hardware" in Windows Setup then it just shuts down. Does anyone have any possible reasons why this may be happening. The beeps I hear or many more than what is listed in the manaul for possible errors. Thanks!

By the way the motherboard is a socket 775 with a Pentium 4 3.0 mhz processor.

Also, have you tried to FDISK & REFORMAT the drive using Win98SE boot diskette ?

The above, of course, will delete all contents of the drive.
