Im playing BF2 and my computer just shuts down! When i try to turn it back on, my LED fan just flashes and it doesnt turn on. Help me go down the check list...

It cant be the video card since it will still turn on despite it breaking right?

Its probably the mobo or the PSU but heres my system stats:
AMD 3000+ w/ zalman 7000cu running idle at 27c idle, cpu is new
chaintech vnf4 ultra - bought new
BFG 6600GT - bought used here
ACLY cooler master 450 watt dual rails, its brand spanking new and i got it 3 days ago, i sold my old OCZ modstream 450 cuz i thought it wasnt enough pwoer since i kept getting not enough power error, plus this one has hella stable 12v rails...

WD raptor 74 giger, also brand new from rma, bought on forums but came sealed
Enermax fan controller
2nd 20 gig hd
2x512 Kingston hyper x dual channel

with that being said, what could be the problem?!?! I was thinking the motherboard right? The psu is brand new and it is more than enough to handle my system. If the hard drive isnt work, the computer would still boot up or at least show signs of it turning on right? If the video card isnt working, then the computer would still turn on but the monitor wont turn on right? What happens if the ram doesnt work?

Right now when i push the power button, the led lights in my system just kind of flash and then quickly turn off. Before this happened, i made several threads on anandtech saying that my computer kept saying my 6600gt wasnt getting enough aux power. Now that this happened, i dont know if its really a PSU problem or a mobo problem. Please give me some advice if you actualy have experience on this matter as im praticaly running out of money trying to get my PC to work.

i dont think that will work as the system doesnt boot up at all! I just tried pushing the power button again and all it does is the system fans kinda move and stop.

cmos clear jumper is in the right position? take the mobo out of the case and try and boot it, maybe it's a grounding problem

to check your powersupply, i believe you can jumper the green and black pins, connect a couple fans, if they spin up then the powersupply is probably ok

I never messed with the cmos jumper so i assume its right, ill test the PSU right now....

as for grounding problem, ill have to test that later as thats a tedious job and im trying to do my homework on my family PC right now too...

not only that, i cant seem to find any warranty for the chaintech vnf4 ultra...seems like im totaly screwed....

Please clear the CMOS. Sometimes when a computer flips out under load, it buggers the stored BIOS info and you need to reload the defaults.

I would bet my own life its your PSU

last year i (stupidly) was using a $20 PSU i bought off of ebay, and it worked great for a month, then out of no where my computer shut off, and whenever i tried to turn it back on, only my lights and fans would come on for about a millisecond, then shut off again

PSU was fried

I know this is off topic, but you have way over 1000 posts and you don't know the video card is part of the POST (unless of course your mobo has integrated video) meaning it won't turn on if your video card doesn't work.
Its almost surely your PSU as you said yourself you switched it out 3 days ago and it seems you havent had a single problem before you did it. Also, never trust the voltage reading software shows you. Asus Probe said my 12v rail was at 11.(7-6), my 5v rail was at 4.(9-8), and my 3.3v rail was at 3.2(4-0). Used a voltmeter and turns out they were 12.(5-4), 5.(2-1), and 3.3(5-3).

Ok i just did that and it seems like my PSU is fine. I know its fine as its one hell of a good psu. Better than the OCZ modstream.

I did that too and it still does the same thing. When i push the on button, every fan on my system flashes for a second and turns off.

Im well aware that mobo voltage readings are different from multimeter readings. Usualy the multimeter shows higher readings than your mobo as i've read enough PSU supply reviews to know. No i did not know that your PC wont turn on if your video card doesnt work. I would think it would turn on but maby beep or something. This is where it wont turn on at all, it just flashes the fan for half a second and thats it. It would only flash once. Then i have to go turn on/off the psu using the back switch and then push the power button and it would flash once again. Any reviews you read on the Cooler Master ACLY compared to the OCZ modstream 450 will say the cooler master is better. OCZ is the BOSE of the computer industry.

Took the ram out, reset my PSU by turning it off/on using back switch, and it doesnt beep as the computer doesnt turn on, it just flashes the fans for half a second as i said before. No beeps! I really believe its the mobo now but im not sure so ill still need any input from other people if you know a little more about computers than i do.

COOLER MASTER Real Power RS-450-ACLY

Read reviews if you want but im telling you its good. Not only that, my VNF4 ultra chipset was running extra hot so thats probably the reason why the mobo is dead. It probably fried the chipset and since chaintech has no manufacture warranty, i have no choice but to buy a new mobo unless anyone can tell me its something else. Like i said, there are others out there that know more than i do.

THATS WHAT IM TRYING TO SAY, i just tested the psu by shorting the green/black wires and it runs my fan just fine. It didnt die, it has to be the mobo or something else. Can anyone here confirm that its the mobo? I can probably test the PSU on the computer im using now though and confirm that its probably the mobo.

Have you tried taking out all PnP cards and RAM , cleaning the slots (with compressed air) and reseating

Simple, but you will kick yourself if it is just a loose card.

I was thinking the same thing but the pci-e card is in there well. I also took out the wireless adapter as i know those things suck up quite a bit of power. I also unplugged the extra 20 gig hard drive and all extra fans/fan controller. Still doesnt work. I believe its the motherboard and i vow to never buy some piece of crap "value" brand again....Chaintech sucks bad...

I just went through a 2nd check on my computer. I took out the pcie 6600gt and then i pushed the power button, nothing happened. Then i realized that perhaps the PSU needed a reset so i turn off/on and it seems the system turns on! The system led nifront of my case is flashing to probably display it doesnt detect a video card. It seems like the video card is the issue. Or could it be that the pcie slot on the mobo is messed up and putting the card in there causes something weird to happen? After all, the video card has been reporting "not enough power" in games so it could be the pcie slot being damaged or the video card itself. I emailed BFG tech support (and they answered fast! Nothing comes close to BFG's warranty and tech support.) and they also gave me the possibility of it being the pcie slot. They said for me to test it but none of my friends have a pcie based computer. I guess im screwd.
