I have recently been getting random pauses when I am on the computer. They are very short but the mouse stops and the system hangs for a second. This is very annoying when I try and transfer video to my computer since it drops frames. My first thought was that it was something running in the background so I started closing things down. I am not sure what is causing it though. Even when I eleminate all but critical programs it still does it. Here are my specs if it helps:

Asus A7V W/800mhz Tbird
Geforce 2 64mb
WD 20 gig 7200rpm
WD 100 gig 7200rpm
Sound Blaster Live Value
TV Wonder
Firewire card
Linksys network Card
Realtek Network Card

My only idea is that it is the recently installed installed 100gig HD. Any ideas?

What OS are you using ?

If you are using Win2k/XP have you checked to see what services might be running in the background that maybe using your resources ?

Do you have your hard drives powering down with a low timelimit ?

I got it now, it was the network "not connected" icon in the systray popping up whn my network is off. Don't know why it would matter but it is fixed. Thanks
