Hi there, I am new here so I hope I posted this in the right place.

Yesterday my computer started doing very crazy things. Im using Windows 2000 pro on an older dell, ~800mhz P3.

When I log in, it takes a very long time for the start bar & wallpaper to come up. The mouse pointer will show up, but it doesn't have the hour glass to show that its working on finishing loging me in like it normally does. Normally it doesn't take too long, but now it is a few minutes

I can't copy & paste at all. hotkeys don't work and neither does selecting copy/paste from a right-click menu. Cant copy/paste text, but i can copy paste parts of images inside photoshop. very strange.

Dragging icons also doesn't work for some reason.

The only thing that i've done recently is install a TG16 emulator called Hu-Go!. I tried to uninstall it, but the add/remove programs window is empty. here is what it looks like:

so i can't uninstall it.

These problems exist when i logout and login as a different user.

I really hope someone can help me figure out what is going on. im afraid to turn off the comp for fear it will get worse or something. probally irrational but...

sounds like your emulator came with a fun virus attached. It definitely sounds like you've got viruses and spyware on your system.

Uninstall Norton and install a 30-day trial of Kaspersky Antivirus Personal 5 (not Pro) from here: http://www.kaspersky.com/trials Also download and unzip the file recommended in this text document. Resist the urge to scan right away :)

Hunt around in Kaspersky's menus and locate the place where you can choose what databases to use. Choose Extended Databases. Get it updated, then reboot the computer in Safe Mode and run a Kaspersky scan.

Stay in Safe Mode and now also run the McAfee scan described in my text file. Its window will disappear when it's done.

Note the precise names and spellings of the viruses that were detected so you can post them here. The McAfee scanner will put its findings in a file called C:\report.html, Kaspersky will show them on the screen.

See if that helps.
