Computer problem



I am trying to install from scratch a window 10 or 11 in a new pc. The pc has:

RAM: 4 slots ballistix

SSD: Samsung ssd 980

GRAFIC CARD: geforce RTX

MOTHERBOARD: ASUS ROG maximus XII hero (wi-fi)

PROCESSOR: INTEL core 19-10900K cpu

BIOS VERSION: 2601 x64

POWER SUPPLY UNIT: corsair hx 1200



I tried both windows (10 and 11) via the Microsoft assistant and usb stick boot and windows 11 iso via rufus usb stick boot. I cannot install windows in it! I even bought a new SSD (the Samsung) and uninstall the old one to begin with a fresh start.

Here is all the things I tried:

Upgrade de bios

Deleted and clean the drive 0 in each attent to install windows

Unplug and plug back the cables to my power supply

Test all my usb ports (unfortunately I don’t have a usp 2.0 in my cpu , only 3.0)

Unplug and test the RAM to see if was conflict

Change the position in the boot bios to usb first



Everytime the same error appears:



If is in the windows 10: “Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation". The installation don’t begin. I reinstall and is always the same error



If is in the windows 11: the installation goes around 77% and stops



Any idea that can help. Since I have a new SSD there is no system in the PC so I cannot reinstall. I don’t know anymore what I can do. Please help!

I would try it without using Rufus, just the media creation tool from Microsoft's website. If that works, then your Rufus setup is bad.

Thanks for the answer. I already tried. I tried different ways, rufus with windows 11 iso, media creation with windows 11, media creation with windows 10... nothing works

Installing the latest bios helped eliminate some potential issues. You should also use just one known good stick of ram until the system is up and running properly. Remove the RTX card and use the 10900K iGPU insteadl. Barebones with 1 stick of ram is troubleshooting best practices. That means no other SSDs or HDDs etc. either. I'd try a different M.2 nvme connector on the board too.

I don't know how you tested the RAM, but I suggest a few passes with memtest86: https://www.memtest86.com/

hi, thanks for all the help. I tested the RAM using one per time in the first RAM slot in the computer. I notice if there is no RAM in the first slot it not worked. I will try the memtes86 and let you know how it goes.

I will also try your advice DAPUNISHER but I must say looks a little complicated to me since I don't have so much experience. I will try anyway. I come back with updates. If in mean time someone has extra ideas please let me know! Thanks

I run the test in one stick ram via memtest86 with no error but when I try update the version of my asus rog maximus XII hero (wi-fi) from 2601 x64 to the latest version from the website 3201 I download it and rename in a formated fat32 usb stick as M12H.CAP but when the stick is in the bios usp port of my pc instead of continous blink blue for 2 to 5 minutes to update the bios, it turns after seconds in a solid blue color and I cannot update the bios. Any idea? Thanks

Did you use bios flashback? And have the USB drive in the USB port marked BIOS? If that is failing try EZ flash 3 in the UEFI. Also did you use the bios renamer tool to rename the bios ? I always let the tool do it.

Regarding barebones for troubleshooting. It is really easy. It means only have mouse, keyboard, one nvme SSD, board, cpu, cpu cooler. There are other nvme connectors under the heatsinks that you can try the SSD in to see if the install will complete in one of those.

I see the board only has an HDMI and no DP out. That would mean using an HDMI cable and monitor with HDMI, which most have. Or you can use an adapter. I just like to get the RTX card out of the mix and use the onboard video until things are running right.

Hi, I used bios flashback and the usb drive is for sure in the port marked BIOS. I used also the renamer tool. The file was renamed as MH12.CAP . In this moment I have in the PC only keyboard, mouse, monitor, ssd samsung 980 in m.2_2, board, cooler, one RAM stick and power supply. I already tried the m.2_3 slot but doesnt work. I already unpluged the RTX card from the pc. I tried the EZflash 3 in the EUFI and the bios is updated to version 3201 x64! But unfortunatelly did not fix the problem to install the windows in the pc. The installation of the windows 11 still fail when reach 77%. I do not have a usb 2.0 in my pc but black (that says 3.0), red and blue ports. I am using the front black ports to try install since in the back I only have red and blue ports

USB is backward compatible and will just run at the speed of the standard. You need to put the USB stick into one of the ports on the board. The blue port under the HDMI port should do the trick. For flashing the bios I'd use EZ Flash from the UEFI in which case that same blue port should be fine.

i tried everything... the installation always stop in 77% and shows the message: windows 11 installation has failed. If I try windows 10 shows the message: “Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation". I don't know more what to do. I need the computer to use as a car simulator to relearn to drive using city car drive +oculus 2 + logitech g25...

Then it is likely a hardware issue. I would return/exchange the CPU and board.
