Hey everybody!

About 3 weeks ago I started building a computer. I had an ATX case and a CD-ROM drive that is about 6 years old. I have an ECS P4S5A mobo, a Pentium 4 2.26 processor, 1 GB of Memory Max PC2100 DDR-SDRAM( 128Mx64), a Radeon 8500 128 MB vid card, and an 80 MB IDE HD (i think its WD) Every time i boot them machine and try and boot from a bootable Windows 2000 Pro CD it says Boot Failure.... with no disk I go to Novell Firmware, and most of the time when im getting boot failure and hit enter a few times after about 10 times it freezes totally, and it occasionally freezes in the bios too. I changed a BIOS setting which disabled quick boot so it counts all the memory, and it hangs about halfway through this process, so now i relize i have a freezing issue. The RAM is compatible with the MOBO, I checked that, and so is the processor. Feel free to double check though. If someone can help I need it! PS i posted this in motherboards and tech support and go no answer so im hoping to have better success here.

Sounds like you have a faulty motherboard.
Every time handled the motherboard, did you make sure to get rid of any static charge you might have had built up?

If you don?t' think it's that, try running the system with the minimum parts needed and see if it freezes then.

I was hoping not to hear that *squint*

I tried two differnt sticks of memory and both froze. I ran (am running) machine with only vid card, processor, mother board, memory, powersupply, case, and CPU fan. I dont think i can get any more minimum than that. I am afraid to flash the BIOS because I would hate to see it hang in the middle of the flash (i guess if mobo is bad theres no way around it) has anyone heard of a system hanging like this before??? Please respond..

PS i doubt i ESDed

Sorry I haven't. I also haven't build all that many comptuers, so perhaps there is still hope for you friend.

It looks to be a problem with the mobo. the only other thing I can think of is a missing or misplaced jumper.

For instance, I know on my msi, if I place the cmos jumper to clear setting, the system wont' even turn on.

So, it's possible (again, just a shot in the dark) that a dif jumper setting could be making your system hang. Check the the manual for any suspicious jumper setting that might have that effect.

Other then that, try a new motherboard of the same model (from a place that alows returns on open, undamaged products) to be sure it's just your motherboard and not the model.
