I'm working on a project and have works to do. 2 co-wrokers comes up to me and ask how do they create a jpeg files from a print screen they had gotten of the internet. So I told them to copy and paste the damn thing in Lviewpro and create a new image file. They are so freakin lazy and do not want to think or experiment that all they want was for me to do it for them....DAMMIT!!!! Every freakin time they have a computer question they come running to me for help. I aint no Help Desk!!!! Getting sick of this BS... what should i do? I aint getting paid to do this computer help stuff but everyone in the office knows that I know how to fix computers :| it is driving me nuts plus I'm wasting my time doing tech support 🙁. Thanks for listening.

Next time a coworker asks you a question, just play dumb. Soon enough you will no longer have the rep around the office for knowing how to fix stuff. Problem solved.🙂 Think you can pull that off?

Good point. However, he's been known as the helpful comp genius for a year. That can be altered.😉

<< Try this one, "Dude, I don't have time right now, try back sometime in '03." Maybe that'll help. >>

LOL, I'll have to remember that one myself.

Unless it's your responsibility to give them tech support, tell them they'll have to wait until you have time. I mean, if they have time to walk over and bug you, they could've spent that same time trying to figure it out themselves. :frown:

I feel your pain, SCSI. My problem is that amoungst my intertesting duties, i still have to play tech support to the thinking-impaired. :|

That would be "need improvement" and "it's (for it is) all good). And you'd also want a period at the end😉

what a punk! 😛 j/k

When I was in your situation, I talked to my boss about it and we put in place a policy where all support requests had to be in writing. This worked quite well because all the idiots were too lazy to put their requests in writing. I don't know if it will work for you. Try giving them dirty looks while you grudgingly give them the solutions.

Sorry 'bout that.

For the entire afternoon, I play dumb.

Co-worker #1: "Hey @#@$#@, you know how to convert a DWG file to a PDF file? "
Me: "Never used Adobe acrobat 5.0 before, ask @$#@$#@, his been using it."
Co-worker #1: "Ok" Walked away disappointed.
Me: 🙂

Co-worker #2: calls intercom, "@#!#@! can you help me? My mouse is acting up funny"
Me: "Er..... try cleaning the roller ball in the mouse"
Co-Worker #2: "How do you clean the roller ball?"
Me: kept quiet for couple sec., then said: " Ask @!@$##$, He cleaned his mouse yesterday"

Co-worker #3: " Hi @$#@$#@, my printer is jammed, can you fix it?"
Me: "I'm busy with this project, can you try and pull the paper out of the printer?"
Co-worker #3: "oh, I'm afraid that I might break it if I pull to hard"
Me: "I'll fix it later, can you jump on another workstation to print your stuff?"
Co-worker #3: "Ok"
10 minutes pass......
Coworker #3: calls intercom, "Hey #$#@$#@, I pulled the paper out, its working now but the color isn't right"
Me: "When did you change the print cartridge in your inkjet?"
Co-worker #3: "I dunno, how do you change the cartridge?"
Me: "I'll fix it later"
Co-worker #3: "Alright"

I left the office w/o fixing anything 😎

I just tell people I do it the correct way then go back to what I was doing. People around me at work are quite self sufficient after a short period of time because I make them think for themselves or bother someone else.
