Computer help......

My friends computer is really messed up. The mouse only works in safe mode. In normal mode the hardware profile says its missing some .vxd file. When it boots in normal mode, the wallpaper looks like it is in safe mode, 16 colors i think? It is running Windows ME currently, and I was thinking about putting XP Pro on it. It is a compaq computer, and they dont have any of the software for the cd drives or anything. would i have a problem getting the drivers if i put on xp?

Have you tried reinstalling your friend's mouse drivers? Also, does ME provide the name of the VXD missing? Upgrading to XP would be a nice option if his system could handle it, albeit an expensive one.

i tried to install the drivers but it said to insert the windows startup disk (i think) which he did not have. i wrote down the name of the file somewhere, let me find it......
