Computer Has Lost All my Settings - Help

I recently downloaded and installed Quicktime. For some reason the install was buggy and I wanted to customize my setup. I went to run/msconfig/startup and unchecked a number of items. I rebooted and after a couple of restarts, many of icons are gone, all of email settings are gone, when I run Word, excel, etc. the computer thinks this is the first time those have been run. All of my favorites are gone. My internet home page is gone. Etc.

How do I get my old settings back?

Can I do a restore and get the settings back from 1 hour ago. If so, how?

Try using system restore to a point before you downloaded Quicktime...

Quicktime has a way of taking over things, but I've never heard of it going that wild.
