Computer Hangs on Starting Windows Screen

I'm having a super weird problem with my computer. It hangs right when the monitor displays the "Starting Windows" screen. I can browse through BIOS just fine which makes me want to say that it's not hardware related. I've tried using 1 stick or memory at a time but the problem still persists.

I also tried a different hard drive with a copy of Windows Vista on it and it too hangs right when the moving bar screen shows up. It locks up right away, in fact so quickly that the moving bar is very faint on the monitor.

The thing that has me stumped is that the computer hangs on the same spot. In Windows 7, I don't get the colored flag looking thing. It always locks up before that.

Does anyone know what this problem may be? Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I know that my installation is good because I can boot into Windows just fine using the hard drive in my other machine.

You might check the bios setting for AHCI or IDE for that drive which may be the issue...?

Good idea to list just what the PC is too all of the componets that is... (cpu, MB, memory, HD...)

Sounds like a bad driver caught in the act of loading. Have you tried Safe Mode (sans drivers)? Also, disconnect any external drives you might have.

You may need to rebuild the MBR in windows 7 and see if it works, although your having the same problems with the second hd with vista on it I'm not sure if it'll resolve the problem but it can't hurt.

  1. Put the Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
  2. Click Repair your computer.
  3. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
  4. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
  5. Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Here are the specs:
Dell XPS 625
AMD 940 CPU
790GX Motherboard (Dell Brand)
8GB DDR2 Memory
2 x 4850 CF
750GB Hard Drive

BIOS has been thoroughly gone over and everything looks fine.

Everything has been disconnected except for the bare essentials but the problem still persists.

I tried booting from the Windows disk but it freezes at the same spot.

Luckily, the computer is still under warranty and if I can't figure it out soon, I'm going to have Dell fix it.

Computer won't boot off of a Windows 7 USB disk that I just made (won't boot off the CD either). It hangs when it gets to a certain part of the progress bar (before it loads the Windows Installation screen).

Time to call Dell!
