computer hangs on standby

New to this stuff. Could that be the problem? I've have never upgraded any bios before and have heard that it can seriously mess some things up if it is done incorrectly. Worth a shot?
 
My advice is to get the floppy/dos based BIOS update, read instructions carefully & have computer hooked to a good UPS when you attempt the update. I have always had 100% success when following these rules.
