Ok, Sounds like maybe you should try the following:
1. see if there is a reset button on the surge protector and push it to reset. Does anything else on the surge protector have power?

2. try unpluging the computer from the powerstrip and pluging into a known working outlet.

3. If you know you are getting power, I would suspect a bad power supply as these are the first to go in a power surge.

let me know........

1. reset still nothing from the computer, yes there was my t.v and a monitor on the bar. edit: and yes they both work
2. didnt work
3. i dont think its a bad powersupply because that green light on my mobo doesnt work and the pc was on right when the power went off i tried to turn it back on and it no workie

my dad said that maybe the monitor and the t.v can handel more power and my computer didnt.

By "powersupply" I meant the component inside your computer that converts the 120 volt power from the wall plug to the low voltage that your computer needs to operate correctly. It is the small silver box inside your computer that has all the wires running out of it. The powersupply can be replaced seperately ( if it is indeed blown) thereby saving you the cost of a new computer.

Why don't you think it is the powersupply? The green light on your mb wouldn't be on if the powersupply blew. And tbalon is right, they are the first to go. Replace your PS and see what happens.

We can only help if you follow our advice.

If the Power Supply has a switch on the back flip it off and back on, same with the 115 - 210 volt switch. That may fix your Power Supply.

kind of a noob OT question.. but will a 300W power supply work for a computer with a blown power supply that is a "steady-state 235 watts"??

or do I need to find a 235W power supply?

Link to computer specs

bring it back and tell them what happened - you've got nothing to lose.

Since it's a Dell, try pulling the power cord out of the power supply and wait a few minutes then plug it back in and try turning it on.

I'm not saying that it didn't get spiked but I've seen some Dells go into a sort of "self protect" mode from the same thing and the only way to reset them was to remove the power for a few and then try to turn it back on..FWIW

First, have you tried what speed01 suggested because he is right and that is exactly what happened to my old dell. If thats not the case then I would go to radioshack and not call them. Before you do that, Who built the power surge protector, because if radioshack didnt make it they can do nothing for you.

Thank you jzimo, I didn't exactly pull that idea out of my butt..:) Anyway, no matter which way the OP decides to persue this, no company is going to pay out anything until it is determined by qualified personell that their product is at fault for the damage. This means that the manufacturer of the power strip is more than likely going to want the surge supressor sent back to them to check for failure and they are going to want the PC thoroughly examined by a qualified technician to determine the exact cause of any failure. And even then, if a failure is discovered, they will probably say that said failure is the responsibility of the PC manufacturer. They certainly aren't going to hand over cash simply because someone claims thier product didn't function as advertised.

If you have house contents insurance, I'm sure that covers things like this as well. You might get a brand new computer out of it. :)
