Computer goes slow when surfing the net...

My computer goes really slow when I'm connected to the internet. When I type, the letters are slow to show up on the screen. And I have to type slow, otherwise nothing will show up at all. It's like the system is lagging, and then the screen just refreshes out of nowhere, and I can type a little bit. If I leave the computer idle, random words and characters just start appearing in the text box.

I ran Norton Anti-Virus with the latest update, as well as Spybot, Ad-aware, and Spy Sweeper to clean the system, I'm still having these problems. How can I fix this? It's getting pretty annoying.

I have seen this problem many times and it is almost always because some crap is running in the background that you don't recognize. It's not just a slow machine, it acts like you arent even typing, then all of the sudden, the letters start showing up and sometimes they pop up in bursts.

Can you take a screenshot of your running processes (task manager)?

Does this mean there was a problem that you needed them to remove? What did they detect, exactly. What exact version of Norton AntiVirus do you have, also?

I don't really know about remote access. How do I check if it's enabled or not?

It's not only the words that I'm typing that are slow to show up on the screen, it's random words and characters that I didn't even type that are showing up on the screen.

I'll have to try hijack this, but HERE is a screen shot of task manager processes

What you got in the way of firewall protection? Router? Software firewall? Both?

I don't really have a firewall protection 😱
I used to have a router, but my cousin needed it so I gave it to him.
The Norton Anti-virus came with the Norton Systemworks 2002 package, and I downloaded the latest updates.

You are in big trouble. You have antique antivirus software (yes, even with the latest updates, the engine is still way out-of-date). You have no firewall protection at all, and you're running a version of Windows that's vulnerable in a whole bunch of ways.

Start by downloading these files:

Now unplug the network cable, uninstall Norton 2002, and install ZoneAlarm and configure it. It'll want a reboot. After the reboot, install Kaspersky Antivirus, plug in your network cable and update Kaspersky.

Next, set Kaspersky's on-access and on-demand scanners to Maximum. Click the Settings tab and click Configure Updater, and set the updater to use extended databases.

Now disable System Restore so viruses can't hide in System Restore. Install the Microsoft Antispyware beta software, update it, and run a full system scan (not the Quick Scan). Fix everything it finds, then reboot into Safe Mode.

In Safe Mode, run an exhaustive Kaspersky antivirus scan. Afterwards, reboot into normal mode and run another Microsoft AntiSpyware scan and another Kaspersky scan and see how you're doing.

If ZoneAlarm asks if stuff should be allowed out onto the Internet, and you don't know what the stuff is/does, then deny it permission until your rig is coming up clean.

Good luck and think about the other option: reinstall Windows using best practices. You might want to look at my ongoing prevention ideas there, either way.

edit: also, here's a handy resource for your HijackThis logfile, dump it into http://hijackthis.de for an analysis. I see you have several questionable or bad items.
