Computer gets blue screen randomly.

This computer will randomly get blue screens. It was in windows xp, all of the sudden I heard what sounded like a click possibly from the hard drive and the screen went blue, but not the standard blue screen, it had blue with some repeating specs of another color on it. Of course the reset of the computer remained powered on. Is this a PSU issue? Possibly a hard drive issue?

Or does anyone suspect that it's something completely different?

I would look at system memory (run memtest86) or GPU memory (run atitool's artifact scanner). You could also do a hard drive test (see the manfacturer's website for details) to determine whether the drive is failing. Failing this, create a restore point and uninstall/reinstall all third-party drivers (such as motherboard, GPU, sound card, etc.).

Double chaeck all the common things too. Reseat the Video card, ensure cables are plugged in, and if you could post a few specs about your computer so we can be a bit more specific with the help.

Ok, well it's a P4 2.4 ghz, 133 FSB, DDR ram. integrated video card. I ran memtest86+ on it, and the ram did get errors. I tested another stick and it tested fine. If I test the other stick again and it doesn't get errors anymore do you still think the ram is bad?

Ok, so I started the test on the original ram and it went through a couple of passes without error. Then on the 3rd or fourth pass it got a bunch of errors again this time on another ram test, is it possible that the ram is starting to fail after it gets heated up? I would have to say I'm thinking that it very well may be the ram. Now I'm going to test the new ram in the machine and let memtest do a ton of tests and see if I get any errors.
