Computer Gaming Or Console

I have been console gaming for years now and soon I will be getting a gaming laptop. My question is should I stick with getting games for the PC or the console? And why should I switch or stay?

You have a laptop which is usually never a good way to play PC games. They usually never had good enough hardware to run the newest games with everything turned up unless you spent at least $3500 on one. Depends on what you call a gaming laptop. Small screens suck for gaming. Console gaming is easier for most people cus they don't have to tweak anything and deal with problems of games not running.

After sitting in front of a computer for 11+ hours a day, going home to sit in front of computer is the last thing I want to do.

I'll deal with the controller and lack of user-created content if it means being able to veg out on the couch and not have to put up with all of the garbage that comes with PC gaming.

Yeah, no laptop will be considerably more powerfull than a PS3. If you want much better graphics you need to go for desktop PC gaming, most laptops are weaker than PS3.

PC pros
- An $800 desktop PC with a $100+ video card will offer better graphics and access to mods and other user-created content. A $900 gaming laptop will have a $50 video card that's worse than a 360 or PS3 ... but it will still give you access to mods.
- PC games are usually $10 cheaper

Console pros
- You can rent console games.
- big TV, couch

The Gateway FX series is a good argument against this. Last February I paid a bit under $1400 for a Core 2 Duo with 3GB of RAM and an 8800GT with 512MB of dedicated RAM, and 17" screen (and got a free copy of COD4). Crysis runs well at medium settings.
I split my gaming between the laptop, Wii, DS, and PS3.

It also has an HDMI port and Bluetooth, so it can be plugged into the TV and I can use a wireless KB/mouse

Both. For PC I do more single player games. I've been playing some Mass Effect and Company of Heroes on it. My Xbox 360 is more for Xbox Live multiplayer. I have several friends with Xbox 360s and Call Of Duty is so much more fun with a bunch of friends playing and chatting along.

Also, there are different types of gaming for each. FPS/RTS style games? PC without a doubt. RPGs? You'll be able to find good ones on both side of the fence. Sometimes I want some more depth and fantastic graphics .. so I'll go start up my PC. If I get home from work and want to screw around for 30 mins without thinking too heavily.. I'll start up my PS3. It really depends on what type of gaming you do.

I bought a Gateway 7811FX with the intent to get back into computer gaming but I just can't do it. To me it is much more enjoyable to sit back on the couch and relax to game. Yeah, I could connect it to the TV via HDMI and use a 360 controllet but then why not just use the 360 and not fight with drivers, patches, etc. My time is precious and it is just easier to pop a game in the 360 or PS3 and call it a day.

Some genres really need a mouse. RTS and other strategy type games I prefer to play on the PC. They released a consolized version of Civilization for console, and I didn't like it nearly as much as Civ IV. Halo Wars works well on the console, but it's not the same as a PC RTS.

FPSes I don't mind playing on consoles, and my PC is rarely good enough to play the latest FPS games anyway.

It comes down to the type of games you enjoy playing.

FPS and RTS = PC, mouse and keyboard is superior

everything else = console, more relaxed gaming with a gamepad and bigger screen on HDTV

Personally I thought many of the recent FPS were really lame so I got a PS3 for mostly third person and sports games. But a I still play TF2 on my notebook. Is there even a TF2 community on consoles? Anyhoo I couldnt imagine playing it on a gamepad.

I do both. I will go PC for FPS and other games where having a mouse just makes sense. Otherwise, I'll go with what's cheaper.

Yep. Even though I prefer mouse + KB, I've moved to consoles for FPS games because the online experience is far superior, not to mention thats where all my friends play.
