Computer & games addict....

Well, I've come to the realization that I'm a computer addict.
I spend hours playing games, surfing the 'net, researching hardware info until I can practically reverse-engineer anybody's mainboard or video card.
This was okay when I was single and working part time. Even when working full-time, I still had all my free time to play with my computer.

Now I have obligations... I'm married to a wonderful woman, and I've gone back to school to get a degree in computer programming.
Unfortunately, I waste all my time at home playing games, and school time is wasted surfing the net even during lectures. I'm falling behind in school because of it... I can't understand COBOL for the life of me. Ugh.

I've admitted I have the problem, and selling off the Geforce DDR card I *just* bought before Christmas as well as every single game I own. 'Net addiction will be a little harder to break.

Where do I go from here though? When I sit down to do homework, I just want to play games... it's tough to concentrate.

Well... wish me luck... and someone buy all my stuff. :p
My wife is depending on me... I have two years to get my diploma because she has to have our first kid in the oven before she hits 30. :Q

Yeah, great support guys. Thanks.
Mind you, I'll cure my addiction... why would I want to come back and associate with boors like yourselves?

Damn, it takes some will power to throw out a Geforce DDR! ;) I don't think I could ever ditch my GTS.

How much are you selling your GeForce DDR for? Its a 64 meg card right? Anyway, I wish you the best of luck in your addiction cure, don't forget computers/games completely, but it's good you've realized your problem and you are out to correct it. Good 4 U.

I'd have to say Counter-strike was my first real addictive game. Doom was very close, but it was Counter-strike. I found myself sitting in my chair, playing round, after round, after round of counter-strike for hours on end without any realization of how much time had passed...only how many rounds had past, lol.

When you sit down to work, unplug your internet connection (ie, modem, cable modem, or LAN cable). Unless, of course, you need to go online while working.

Comp/Net addiction is pretty terrible in such that it dominates a great aspect of one's life (heh... tell me about it). Especially when you somehow feel obligated to post at different forums... :)

ive been through the same thing(dam cs and aoe2!)

what i found that helps is to get away from the problem. I try to spend every hour i can away from my apt in the libraryl, study on campus, whatever. That way when i am home i can spend the time doing playing or surfing, without feeling guilty.

maybe this will help

Thanks for the support guys. :) When I'm at school, I need to be 'plugged in' in order to use the network printers found in every room. I guess if I don't need to print, I should yank the network cable out. (It's unfortunate that then if I want to print, I need to reboot. What a pain...) Even now, I'm at school on the forums wasting my time...

uh... I think I'll be going now. Bye. See you all later tonight. Maybe. ;)

Set a schedule where you stay at school a bit longer everyday where you pretty much just go to the library and find a corner to do work. The inclass thing is a bit tougher, try sitting in the front row, if they have rows, where you're close to the teacher which might discourage you from surfing quite so much. At home, if you have several computers, pick one to do work on and remove all modems/nics from it, along with all games off the HD and give the games to the wife with instructions not to givem to ya. Test studying, ask your wife to refrain from any marital relations a few weeks before and lasting until after the test at which time, if you get a good grade on the test you recieve sliding scale of whatever you want depending on how good the grade is.<-- motivation :D

You know.... we've almost done just that before you even said it. :)
I packaged up ALL the games and let my wife take them to work where she'll keep them "safe". :)
Now getting her to not "perform" until after midterms.... well... it's only a week.... maybe. It could be a perfect opportunity to bend her to my will. :p Naw... we're too much of a team to force the other to do something the other *REALLY* doesn't want. With the exception of homework. :(

Hey... I may have something there....

"Ewww... I don't want to."
"Yeah? Well *I* have to do homework!"
"..... er... that's different." ;)

Don't worry folks, I'm not a sex-weirdo. I'm probably more "normal" (boring to some of you, I'll bet) than most people here. :D
