We have an IBM ThinkPad here that someone uses. It has Windows 2000 and Office 2000 on it. Her computer has been freezing alot the past 2 months and I've pretty much narrowed it down to Outlook. Whenever the computer crashes, outlook is open. I even reformatted and done fresh installs of everything and it still freezes. I've checked her PST file to check if it is corrupt and the utility (from Microsoft) shows it as being ok. I've even created a new PST file for her, renamed her other PST file as another name and has that open as well, and it still locks up occasionally. This time, it locked up while she was working on an Excel spreadsheet, but Outlook was open in the background. Any suggestions?</FONT>

Define freezes. Does the whole machine fully lock, or are the apps just not responsive. Can you still access it (even ping it) when it's frozen? If it a hardlock, I don't think you'll find Outlook is the problem, sounds more like a bad driver or a hardware problem (heat maybe?)

The whole computer locks up. You have to shut it off and then back on. It doesn't always happen. It's very random. Sometimes it will be fine, and other days it will lock up 3 times in like 15 minutes. It's only been doing it for the past 2 months and it has had the same setup for about 6 months.

One thing that is weird is that it started happening after we copied some files from another person's document folder (about 3000 files) when that person left. This other person took over part of their job, so she needed his files. I thought maybe some files were corrupt, but everything checks out ok and there are no viruses or anything.

I still think that Outlook is the culpret. Just not sure what would be causing it to lock up.

I find it extremely ulikely that a user mode application like Outlook is cauing a 2k machine to hard lock. This is a hardware problem, heat, bad drivers, or something like that.

I'm going to be putting Windows XP on it next week, so we'll see what happens. Maybe it will stop if it was a driver problem.

Did a fresh install of XP pro and Office 2000, copied all the data files back. Today, with Outlook opened, the computer froze when the mouse moved. I'm downloading newer graphic drivers which are supposed to be specific for this model laptop for XP. I hope this works!
