Computer Freezing question.

Okay, my computer has been freezing lately and I'm not entierly sure why. I've run virus scan, ad aware, etc... so I don't think it is software, and I haven't had a BSOD since I have installed this OS(win xp pro). The computer freezes up at just about any time, it doesn't have to be while playing a game or under high stress, it can just be surfing or even while I am away and it is sitting with minimal programs up. I know my case gets rather warm since I have 3scsi drives in the case, but I also have 6 panflows going so I didn't think that would be too much of a problem. But I'm starting to think it may be cpu heat since it is almost constantly at ~48 now(p4 2.26) and when I orginally installed it it was at about 26 or so(I'm using an alpha heat sink). Do you guys have any ideas? You think it could be CPU heat, and if so do you think some more high flow fans would work?

P4 2.26
Abit sr7-8x(still looking to upgrade)

I had a prob like this a few months ago with a customers computer.

Turned out to be a mem problem.

Juat a thought.

I would try borrowing some ram from a friend because it sounds like your ram is defective...

It might be a cpu heat problem but I seriously doubt it because then it would lock up more often during games or other cpu intensive programs and not just randomly. However, just to be sure, I would remove the heatsink, apply some new thermal paste (recommend AS3), and reattach it.

Thanks, I'll try both when I get home. I hope it's not ram, since this is the replacement for the first stick in this computer that was bad.
