Computer freezes on boot up...Part 2.

I submitted a topic a few weeks back under, 'Computer freezes on boot up'. I was having all sorts of strange problems with PC but finally managed to reinstall operating system and everything seemed fine. The past week my keyboard has started disabling itself again for no apparent reason. The first couple of times a restart rectified the problem. However, my keyboard is now completely dead and no amount of restarts seems to put things right. The keyboard is not detected by the computer in the control Panel(Printers and other hardware/keyboard). What is my next step? I don't have a virus. My keyboard is ok. I'm figuring on replacing my hard drive but do not want to replace items that may be ok. Any tips much appreciated. Thanks.

Firstly, this will serve as a bump for you till a "guru" comes along.

Since you've determined the keyboard is OK, I'm wondering if it's a motherboard problem or an a Windows problem. Can you get into BIOS with your key board? Which would prolly mean the motherboard itself may be OK. I.e., not a bad port/connection.

Sorry if this too simple, but are you sure you don't have keyboard and mouse swtched? Some mobo's (NF7) "sort" of work even when switched.

Is it a USB keyboard? or regular. Try the other, or an adapter.

What does the device manager show? If it's disabled there perhaps you can simply reinable it.

Why replace the hard drive? I wouldn't think that has anything to do with it

Good Luck

Thanks for your reply. I cannot get into BIOS when I have this problem. Keyboard and mouse are not switched. PS2 keyboard is being used ( the last time this problem appeared , I attached a USB keyboard which did not rectify the problem). Device Manager does not show keyboard (I will attempt to re-enable it from within device manager next time this problem arises).
After several restarts keyboard is now working again. The problem is, I know this is going to happen again and who knows what other problems are going to arise. I figured that I may have had a hard disk problem but I have run scandisk etc and everything is in order. Possibly a MB fault? Any more tips much appreciated.
