Computer freezes for 5 seconds

Ever since building my computer, I have had a problem where it would randomly freeze for 5-7 seconds and then act normal again. When it freezes, I cannot move the mouse and usually I have iTunes or Foobar playing some music so 1 second of the song would loop over and over while it is frozen.

I also noticed that my SATA DVD Burner disappears from My Computer after this freeze.

This happens randomly but never when I am playing games.

Here are my computer specs:
Core i7 920
Thermalright TRUE 120
Asus Rampage II Extreme
3GB (3x1GB) Corsair DDR3 1600MHz Dominators
LG GH22NS30 SATA DVD Burner
300GB Velociraptor
EVGA GTX 275
Antec Signature 850
Lian Li PC-V1000Z Case (the velociraptor is connected to the SATA backplane)

I am running Windows XP Pro SP3.

Any ideas what may be causing this?

Try unplugging your dvd burner for a day and see if it still freezes. If it doesn't, then try a new dvd burner.
