Computer Freezes at turn off

When ever I go to the start menu and hit turn off or try shutting my computer down through other metholds - ctrl/atl/del or shut on the login screen

My computer just freezes... it just sits there with that loading screen and nothing happens..

Now when I hit the power button it turns off and back on just fine but I feel using this method to much may cause some more problems so I need to fix this...

Why could this be happening and how could I fix it?

Thank you in advance

What programs do you have in your startup?

Run msconfig and they are listed on the "Startup" tab.

How did this problem start?
Did it start after installing a particular program? Or, has this computer always been like this?

You can disable the startup programs, through msconfig for diagnosis purposes, one at a time and see if the problem goes way. If it does, you will know which program is responsible.

OK, this is my idea.
When you boot, those startup programs run. When you shut down, one of those programs may not terminate properly and cause the problem. So, that's why I suggested you disable some of them and try again. If you disable them all and the problem still exists obviously the problem is somewhere else.
What have you got to lose?

okay, so I turned off the start up items and it said I need to restart... tried it and it wouldn't shut down

SoI turned the power off, then back on...

And now when I go to start/turn off it doesn't freeze! (yes it freezed before I actualy even went to shut down)...

You're onto something, how do I enable and disable only certain items?

Okay... so it's turning on and off now...

So far i only have AVG as a start up program...

Is there any actual point to having items be start up items? It seems that I can access them all find after the computer is turned on...

And I could get rid of the messege that comes with it

You can select individual startup items to be active or not. Your objective should be to find the single program that is responsible. After you do that, we can find out a solution.

msconfig startup tab is a diagnostic tool. You should not permanently disable any startup program this way!

The Adobe Reader and Microsoft startup programs can be easily disabled by deleting them from the startup menu on Start/All Programs menu.

You should not permanently disable avg obviously because that is your antivirus and that is not the culprit as you will find since many use it.

qttask is tricky to disable. I can tell you how later.
Soundman can be disabled from the options menu of your sound card program.
Steam can be disabled using a registry editor. I can tell you how later.

The programs that I do not know anything about and could be the cause of your problem are:
razerhid
jusched
aptiptaxx
Phantime3

Just out of curiousity, are you able to use Windows Update without any problems?

It's a long shot.......

As soon as you find out which program is the culprit (as I told you how), you can fix the problem.

I am about to give up on this!
Let's try one more time:
You should be able to only disable the program that is the culprit so that it does not start and have every other program that you have in the startup list enabled and be able to shut down with no problems.

Good luck!

Well, that's fine!
Use it. If the symptoms start again some day, you know how to use msconfig to get some clues.

Right click on "My Computer" and click on "Manage".
In the left pane, expand "Event viewer" and select "Application" or "System".
