I am building a new system for my parents. At first, I thought that it was going to be used for my Father's 3D CAD Software (the largest application going to run), light internet browsing, and checking e-mail. But after I talked to them yesterday to get an idea so I could begin choosing parts, they said that they would like it to have a tuner card, and the capability of recording Live TV.
I know that will use a lot of hard drive space, so I'm thinking of either a RAID Array, or running a large HDD (400GB) on one channel for all of the TV, then a smaller (120GB) HDD on the other for the OS and Software, and possibly a smaller one to back-upthe CAD Files because they are important!
I looked at the CAD Software's hardware requirements (Solid Works Use All Vendors, 2008, show PASSING) and they get pickey about what GPU to use. At first, I thought an ATI All-in-wonder card (just so it's all in the same card) would work, but I now know that I am going to have to use a seperate tuner card. (reccomendations on those?)
The next thing that scares me is that my father runs is CAD Software on his workstation at his office. It runs an Intel Xeon Processor and can run the software with no lag or freezing. (System requirements Here) I would like to run 2 GB RAM because I am not sure how many components he will have in his models and XP Pro (If there's still a copy avalible when I build this). So I am unsure about the processer and need advice.
I still need a motherboard.
For the case, I planed to use the Antec New Solution NSK2480 but I am now concerned with space requirements. They said that they would like smaller cases. I was thinking about a desktop case so the monitor can sit on it. But now I am open for ideas.
I will use a flatpanel monitor, I got a reccomendation for one in another thread for the Acer AL2216Wbd and will use that one unless someone says different.
I am not carrying any parts over from a seperate system. Budget for the computer hardware (excluding monitor, keyboard, ect.) is sub $1000. This is not my first build so I know how to do all of the installation.
I live in Kansas so Newegg is an option, but I would like to buy as many parts from a local computer store here as possible. I am not sure on thier exact selection, because I haven't been in there in a while and there website is never right on prices and what they have, so you have to go inside.
I do not have any paticular brand I like, just whatever is reliable.
