That's totally up to you. When DX10 games come out I can almost guarantee that you will not enjoy their full beauty because the 8600 will need to run at the lowest possible settings. I'd suggest save your cash and buy a cheap card until DX10 games are actually available, by then you should have enough saved to buy a deeply discounted and super fast 8800GTX OC SLI.

Just get something cheap now. It's the end of a product life cycle and not a great time to buy. My cousin bought a 7600GT and he is a Frames per Second freak (FPSF). It seems to suit him fine and he is very happy with the results. Currently you can get one for less than $100.

damn it>_< So I should cancel the 8600GT at zzf? yes??? ??? Is there any fee if I cancel ? I only ordered just a few mins ago.

How does that gigabyte 6800GT with the non fan cooling comparte to a 7900GS???

p.s. I won't be upgrading my video card on this computer ever. No joke. I'd rather not spend any more on a video card either ( currently its 159.... so ya.)

o and whats the warranty on that gigabyte card...:

>_<

eVGA's no-fault-warranty is the best in the buisness. No one can top it, not even BFG. What kind of budget are you talking about here?

it's totally up to you to decide. I say get the cheapest card now and save for the ATi 2900 HD

Same Card at Newegg for $149. Good Value. But too much $$ in my opinion.

It looks as if you could grill a hamburger off of this thing.. too bad Intel didn't equip retail prescotts with this thing.

Dude you need to decide for yourself what YOU want to do. I still recommend an IDE drive. If this system if going to end up with your parents, it's sure to be more "compatible" with any given selection of programs than a SATA optical drive. If you're going to be keeping this computer for awhile and you can't afford an 8800GTS or higher, then go with an 8600GTS so you'll still be able to use DX10 features from upcoming games and programs. If you get a DX9 card now and you plan to keep this computer / configuration for awhile, you might get stuck trying to run something that does only DX10 when you have only a DX9 card.

Now that I know you will never be upgrading (cough.. ;)) I would get the 8600 GT/GTS and be happy with it. Overclocked versions give a 1-3FPS gain. They sell for $50-100 more have a bad cost/benefit ratio and are not worth the price premium. For that kind of extra dough you can move up to the next class of video card and get more way more than 1-5FPS over a stock 8600. Buy the cheapest version of the 8600 that can be had (including shipping). If you are going to spend over $240 on a video card the 8800 GT/GTX 320 MB is going to be the best bet.

EDIT: I did not realize that the 8600 was so darn cheap, So it is a good buy.

Thanks for the help guys, I didn't feel like messing around and canceling and then having to place two new orders. the XFX 8600GT will be fine I think even if the gigabyte version does have no fan....*tear* I just donno if the non fan one would have problems.

Lately nVIDIA GPU's have been able to run very hot with no problems at all so an oversized heatsink with out a fan would have worked just fine. Also the Fanless Gigabyte 8600 wasn't an overclocked version so overheating should not be of a big concern.
