[Problem Description]
I am having problems starting up my computer. It has been running fine for some time but now the computer all of a sudden just shut down on me. I am able to get power to the motherboard as the lights are lighting up and the fans are running but I am unable to get a display on my monitor. I have tried three graphics cards that are compatible with the motherboard and all three of them failed to display something on the monitor. I have put up another computer to the monitor and it works perfectly. I am assuming there is something wrong with the Motherboard VGA slot since everything else seems functional. But There could be other failures that i dont know about like CPU overheating but Im sure that even with the CPU over heated there should still be a display. Before this occured my computer shut down by itself. I turned it back on but it turned off by itself and later it refused to even turn on. Maybe there is not enough power going to the motherboard but i also unplugged all the power from harddrive CD roms and fans and still the computer failed to display anything on the computer. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

Sorry im not expert with computers so please bare with me.

I will do that now but some people have told me that my CPU might have fried do to the heat in the room. I had 4 fans running but still got pretty hot. Is there a definite way of seeing if the chip is really fried? If the warranty is still valid can i replace it? Is the warranty 5 or 3 years?

Thanks for your help.

maybe the monitor blew out. or a power flux killed the power supply. the same thing happened to me on mine, i left the comp for a while then when i cam back it was off. it would sstart up now. but im not sure this is your problem.

Turn it on without a CPU installed. If it reacts the exact same, it's the motherboard. If it doesn't, it's the CPU.

My computer booted up when i put my PCI card in there and went all the way to the windows xp loading screen and after that screen it went black and didnt load. I booted up in safe mode and tried to do a error check on my C drive to see whats wrong and it said i needed to reboot so i rebooted and now im stuck at the same spot. So this crosses out the problems with my CPU. Now im clueless.. could it be that my Powersupply isnt giving out enough power to start up my radeon 9800 and all the other stuff in my computer?

I have a 300watt PS.

That could be it, yep. If you replace the power supply, get a high-quality brand, not a cheapie. Possible PSU to get, not a cheapie by any means, but forward-compatible to your next computer or two :) If you're not worried about the future-proofing right now, grab an Antec SL350 or something, you can probably score one pretty cheap in For Sale & Trade if you have the time for that.

I have an antec powersupply right now.

Well ok i found something out..
There is a heatsink attached to my motherboard. 2 of the clips that holds down this heatsink came off so only 2 of the clips hold it down. I didnt even notice that the heatsink was flopping all over the place when moving the case but it was. When i push down the heatsink with my finger it loaded my computer and it went to system restore for some reason but when i let go of the heatsink several minutes later the system froze. Im thinking thats what has been causing my computer to cause this malfunction. I have lost the box for my motherboard but since this is a malfunction of the mobo do you think they will give me a new one? The clips just popped off and cant find it.

Thanks everyone for your help.

This is not the CPU heatsink that fell of its the motherboard heatsink. Its in the middle of the motherboard and under the heatsink is a chip

I have an Asus P4B533 mobo

Pentium 4 2.53

Thanks for the clarification. One option would be to simply adhere the heatsink to the motherboard's northbridge chip using thermally-conductive adhesive. thermally-conductive adhesive. Clean up the surfaces well first.

Are the adhesives meant for the northbridge chip? I know there is nothing else i can do but i dont want it burning down my house either.
