MIS used to be somewhat of a hot field (pay is very good too), and I think it still is, but keep in mind that the need may diminish. That said, MIS and CPE are really not related. MIS deals with using current technology and teh job is to know how to use that technology to a companies benefit. AN example would be telling a company about the use of Microsoft's .NET campaign. It would be your job to know how to use it and inform the company about it. CPE is a different story all togther. You develop the stuff people use. You would be one of the creators of the .NET techology as opposed to the user. If you are into networking, MIS is actually a good idea. ANother good one is CPE technology, which is much more hands on based rather that theory based as regular engineering is.
Keep is mind also that it is a business course. An MIS major could also be part of a marketing campaign. Computer/Electrical Engineers make it, Computer Science Majors give it the brains, Information Science majors tell teh brains how to work effeciently, and MIS majors take all the good from teh product, relay it to the marketing majors to market it. This is a very simple exmaple, so dont expect it to be exactly like this though.
MIS is not "computer science drop outs who want to go into sales". It's possible for an MIS major to make 100k a year. That salary alone should tell you that it is not a major for drop outs.
