That current laptop is fine. I have the same setup in my Dell with half the ram and XP, and it runs great.

If It's "slowed down" over the years or whatever, just format and reinstall windows.

We got rid of all our D600's They were dogs. Slower than all get out. I couldn't stand working on one. Now, the d830 is a nice laptop.

get a d630, it's a very nice lappy

as for laptop with serial....that's no longer needed. just get keyspan and you can virtualize that usb to serial.

I remember one of the network engineers got one of those laptops with usb only and he freaked because he thought he couldn't connect to any cisco router or switches anymore....until I showed him the keyspan product
