Computer dying?

Yeah, so just as I was about to make up my mind and get the XFX 6600GT for my system, I went into the BIOS and tried to O/C it to the specs in my signature.

I've been running it stock for the last couple of months because I've barely done any gaming, but now I wanna start again.

Well you guessed it, my computer is completely unstable overclocked at any setting besides the default 1.47GHZ.

The computer locks up either on startup or when I try to run a game such as Doom 3 or access the hard disk at all.

This happens whether I O/C it to 2.2GHZ (200x11) or 1.5GHZ (9x166) and everything in between.

I'm thinkin it's the hard drive, but I haven't had this problem before, and I thought this MOBO had a PCI/AGP 33/66 lock on it? I know the AGP is locked to 66MHZ, but I didnt see a setting for PCI in the BIOS???

What do u guys think?

on almost all mobos PCI = AGP/2, so unless there is a failure of the locks, it isnt that. Also, you may need to set AGP to 67 instead of 66 to work - dunno about your specific mobo though.
Try running P95 at stock, if it fails, then something has gone wrong.

I wish I had an extra HDD laying around, but I don't. *sigh*

I'll run Prime95 when I go home.

What else can I do to establish the HDD as the culprit?

hd's on sale this weekend at frys. consider it a forced upgrade😉
reinstall windows.

if its stable at stock i doubt its the hd though. u've just paid the price for oc.

Well, if that's the case, then, I guess it's time to say goodbye🙁:brokenheart:

It was the best processor money could buy. $50 for the T-Bred B and $100 for the nforce2 board.. *sigh*
