Computer doesn't POST

Hi,

I just moved to LA from the bay area and set up my computer. When I turned it on however, nothing happened. The system powered up, with fans running and cd-rom spinning, but I saw only a blank screen. I tried everything, including pulling out and plugging back in every plug, cpu, and ram. Reset cmos, got a new cmos battery. I tried the ram in another computer and it worked fine. Then I figured the m/b or cpu is toast, so I bought a new pair, and tried to boot but the same thing happened. I assumed it was not a video card problem because I did not hear a beep, which occurs during POSTing. However, my friend said his computer did not POST without a video card. Is this a possibility? Any other suggestions? I'd hate to try a new video card and find it's not the problem and have to return it with the cpu and m/b. Keep in mind this happened while moving, so physical damage may have occured. Thanks

You could still have a bad power supply. Even if the motor and LED supplies are working, there could still be another problem. Try another supply. You can do this without physically removing your present supply by just plugging a supply from another machine into your motherboard and drives.

Good luck. 🙂

Hey harvey, I took your suggestion and used another power supply from a working computer, but still didn't boot up. Thanks though.

Have you swaped out video card?

I brought my dads computer home around christmas time to install xp for him. I live less than 5 minutes away when I got home I had same problem as you. I swapped out video all was well. Strangest thing I ever saw. Computer was running when I went to pick it up. A half hour later couldn't get anything show up. 😕

I sure hate to suggest this, but could your monitor of bit the dust in the move? Have you verified that it works?

And it still could be a video card, if the output stage is cooked, that wouldn't interfere with its running.

Definately make sure that the video card is seated and then you need to ask a good friend if you can bring your system over and see if it displays on his monitor. (This will peak his interest and give you a better chance of borrowing his video card while your their..........🙂)
