Computer does not post, just beeps

Hi,

I just built a second computer out of spare parts and I'm having a problem. It is not booting at all, just sits there and beeps. I've tested everything, the RAM, CPU and even put the video card out of my main rig into this computer and it does the same thing. If anyone knows what may be the problem, please let me know. I am thinking the motherboard may have went south, but I do not want to jump to conclusions.

Thanks

What kinda mobo do you have? If you know you find out what kind of bios chip you have and you can count out the beep codes and look them up here. or if you have the book for your mobo it should have the beep codes in the book.

I get these beep codes with and without RAM installed

1-2-1-2 Load alternate registers with initial POST values.

yeah, i was there and they did not help one bit with my problem. I am down to the motherboard as the possible problem because I've already eliminated the CPU, RAM and PSU. I cannot update the BIOS because nothing shows up on the screen anyway.

http://www.badcaps.net/ look at motherboard pics & compare to your's.

Don't post until after you've read the FAQ section. If you do post after you find bad caps,
down load your pics to thier server no bigger than 800 pixels. I love that site, VG folks there.

chances are your motherboard does not support your CPU and will need a BIOS update to do so....in order to do the update your going to either need to do a Hot Flash....or throw an older CPU in there do the BIOS update then put your original CPU in.

I'm running a 1.6GHz Willemette Celeron on it. I doubt that it is the CPU causing the problem. I'm also running PC2100 on there also. All my components run fine, it just doesn't post and beeps after running for about 10 seconds
