Some time ago, I was working on my self-built system, and it suddenly just powered down. It wouldn't turn back on when I pressed the power button, so I tried to reset the switch on the power supply and on the surge protector. This also didn't help it power back on. My system was completely dead.
The first thing I tried to fix was grabbing a new power supply. After I put it in, I tried to start up the system and it was a no go. I figured something had burnt out in the mobo or CPU.
My next step (this was stupid) was to put the OLD power supply back in, and get a new motherboard with the old CPU. Once again it did not power up at all.
Next, I tried a new CPU with the previous combination. It also did not start up.
Finally, I used the NEW power supply with the new mobo and CPU and got power. However now when I hook up the connections, I don't get any POST and the system doesn't have any beep codes when I start it up. I hear the fans starting up and the drives seem to be getting power.
I've tried switching in new RAM to see if that was a problem, but it seemed like a longshot. It didn't work.
What could possibly be causing this problem? I don't think my video card is fried, but I could try throwing in a spare one I have. Also, if the video card was a problem it seems like I would be getting beep codes. Does anyone have any ideas?
