Hey...I have all of the Maximum PC mags back to December 99'....I looked at the ones from the past 6 months or so, and couldnt find it. I know its in one of them, so if anyone has any way to narrow my search I am sure I can find it 🙂

Bump once again. MrTux has a bunch of MaximumPC issues. Does anyone know which month this thing was in?

Thanks,
arod324

I remember reading that issure of Max PC -- a guy at work brought it in....ummm, I think it was May, June, or July of this year, but definitely not earlier than that.

If you have access to their computer you can always try Netbus. It's great fun...provided you don't go too far. I had to format once because of a "prank". That being said, you can do lots of harmless stuff to totally piss people off.

<< Put this in their startup folder! 🙂

Cheers!

WHAT THE EFF! I downloaded this and ran it before I saw the post about what it did.

OMG I think I just wet myself.

Evil! Ahh... I love the classics though. Random floppy drive accesses. Making both mouse buttons the right button and random cd-rom open and closes.

I had a roommate who snored really loud, so I made a minute long recording of it and changed all his Windows sounds to that. He was not amused.

I don't remember the exact process, but I think you go to LOCALMACHINE, SOFTWARE, WINDOWS, POLICIES, create a new key called NODISPBACKGROUNDPAGE and set the value to 0. That should do it. This may not be the exact process, but is very close. Also, instead of deleting the key, you can just set it to 1 to restore the system, so the next time will be easier. 😀

I had one called Caps that turned the caps lock on/off at random, I put it on a friends comp at work and he thought his keyboard was loosing it, he got so pissed off while trying to write memo's he smashed his KB on his desk (very loud, swearing, repeatedly). I couldn't tell him about it right after that, so I took it off when he went to I.S. to get another KB. I eventually told him about when he got buzzed up at a company picnic and he almost pissed his pants laughing.

Go in their favorites folder and highlight everything and right click. Change the attributes to hidden and read only! 🙂

Cheers!

A few years back, I saw a key combination that removed the start button on win95. Restarting explorer brought it back, but I've never found out what the key combo was. Anybody know?

The Max. PC, May 01, pg. 55 says following:

<< He made his way to KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System (he actually had to create a key called System) and right-clicked it to create a new DWORD Value. He named that value "NoDispBackgroundPage" then right-clicked that value to modify it and set the decimal value to 00000001. >>

Oh, I've never tried this, but create a restart shortcut and place it in the start up folder.

C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE shell32.dll,SHExitWindowsEx 2

Make that the target for the shortcut. 🙂 (for win 98 and ME)

This works well in a Domain. I used to do it all the time untill people caught on to it.
I would open up thier C$ share from the run line //computername/c$.
Then I would check thier folder properties and make sure show hidden files was turned off.
At this point, I would go to thier profile and locate the desktop folder.
Then on my own desktop I would make a folder called "YOU SUXOR" (or whatever) and make sure it had the hidden attribute turned on.
Then I would move that folder to thier desktop folder and begin copy and pasting over and over. Sometimes I wouldnt stop till I had 2 or 3 thousand instances of the folder. (It's easy to do, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, etc).
When you feel like you have enough, turn on the show hidden files.
Hilarity ensues.

Yep that's it. I was a bit off, but I was trying to recite it from memory. There were also some other good pranks in that issue.

You guys rock!!! Thanks for all of the research on this!

I've just got one question...... Will this work with every version of windows?

Thanks for all of your help.... now I just have to find a LAN party MWUAHAHAHAHAHAH 🙂..
hehe.. I'm actually not going to be a bastard, I'm just gonna have some fun with a few of my friends.

I just tried it on win2k and I don't think it works. I can still change my wallpaper no problem. It might be limited to win98
