I'm using the same computer desk I've had since I was 12 and my parents bought me my first PC (a 486 DX2/66, that was 13 years ago). I have no real reason to upgrade, other than the hutch on top will not permit a larger flat screen monitor (>19") like I want to purchase (also still using a 17" CRT from about 8 years ago).

I have no idea where to start looking. There are several features I know I want. A good open platform below the desk to place my tower on (not one of these little closed cabinet/shelves that must do wonders for your case temps). A hutch, but high enough that it won't eliminate ~20" monitors. A slide-out drawer wide enough for a keyboard AND ample room for a mouse... I currently have my mouse on the table above the slide out tray and it is a damn uncomfortable reach to use it, can't believe I've been gaming like that for years and don't have carpal tunnel yet.

Most of the desks I found in the Office Supply stores have slideout trays which are too narrow, and they have heatbox cabinets to put the tower in.

Just curious what the geek community uses these days. 😉
 
see my sig. i got mine from Ikea. i love it. it was 70 bucks without the drawers, add 30 with. i have 2 of these work desks. one at my own place and one at my old room back at parent's place. its a huge desk and now i have a 24" and a 20" on the desk you see in the pic.

edit: read your post OP in full and saw your req'd. i dont think theres a keyboard drawer option for mine. but there is a hutch available with this desk, just go to ikea and build your own "Jerker" desk. personally i hate keyboard drawers and hutches.

I got it on sale about a month ago for $70, iirc. It's pretty stable, and looks good, imo. For the price, I have yet to find something this big that I like better.

Why are your speakers angled out on the rear surrounds?
 
I use a standard rectangular folding table. Plenty of room for 2 19" CRTs (although I'm looking to upgrade to a pair of widescreen 24" LCDs) and a bunch of other junk, and no heat issues for the PCs on the floor underneath. For storage, I'm using some of those generic plastic file cabinet type drawer things.

It's not pretty, but it gets the job done.

I'm in the process of doing the same right now. Space constraints in our study make anything decent we'd buy in a store unusable. We were using 2 2'x4' desks that I built with legs from Ikea and a little bit of wood, but we're replacing them with a larger L-shaped built-in desk.

I've got a huge L shaped desk that takes up almost two walls in my office, it's awesome. It's also old and falling apart, hope I can find another someday!
 
jerker jerker jerker. awesome name.

i dunno, i dont know where to put the speakers, if I line them up towards me I can't hear anything coming from "rear" so i angle them 45 degrees outside/away from me to fool myself

i dont use them that often, i play games on xbox360 more than my PC these days
